Lessons I learnt whilst on holiday

2016 has been a busy year for me with big projects at work and the growth of PropelHer. This year I was committed to changing my life and that has resulted in me working super hard. So hard that summer came and went without me having a summer holiday. So in September, I had a belated summer holiday, which was so important for a number of reasons.

1) Take a step back

Often you can be running along at 100 miles an hour that you lose perspective on a lot of things including: what you are achieving, what is important, what is necessary, what is really making you happy and what is draining you?

Reflection is an important part of your journey to success and happiness. Therefore, it is vital that you make the time to really think about your life. Where it is right now? How do you feel about that? What do you want to go next.

I highly recommend scheduling in regular times to check in with yourself. Put them in your diary or planner and stick to it! As a successful woman you owe it to yourself. Be sure to give yourself moments to relax and reflect.

2) Get a second opinion

Sometimes you just need another person to talk to. Not only do things sound different when you speak about something out loud (instead of your head), but another person will, usually, bring new thoughts to the table.

This doesn’t mean you have to follow their advice, but it gives you a different perspective.
3) Challenge your ideas of the ‘norm’

There is something about a foreign country that really helped me challenge my idea of ‘norm’. I mean the shops shut in the early afternoon for a siesta. The fact is that our ideas of the ‘norm’ is hugely based on the country we live in. However, just because that’s the norm where you are, doesn’t mean that’s the only option. Nowadays the world really is your oyster and you can have a life that looks however you want.
I would love to hear how you reflect. Please do share in the comments below.
