2019 is officially here and this week a number of new women joined PropelHer’s Book Club and I always tell them to check out what we have read so far (You can see everything PropelHer’s Book Club has ever read over on the reading list). However, trying to catch up on everything we have read is a little ambitious so I thought it would be helpful to highlight the books from the 2018 list that you should definitely add to your to-read list if you haven’t read them already.
In 2018 PropelHer’s Book Club read 11 books (we took a month off for my 30th). The full list is as follows:
-
The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life To The Next Level by Gay Hendricks

-

-

-
The Discomfort Zone: How to Get What You Want by Living Fearlessly by Farrah Storr
Now obviously I would love you to read them all and I have found something useful in them all, but if I was pushed to choose my top 3 this is what I would choose.
The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life To The Next Level by Gay Hendricks
We read this book back in January 2018 and it was a great way to start the year. This book talks about the ‘Upper Limit Problem’ and how we all have a self-imposed upper limit when it comes to success and if we exceed it then usually we do something to sabotage the situation. Understanding this concept I think is key for anyone who wants to really take their life to the next level, because it is likely to come up.
This book also outlines the 4 different zones that you can be working in:
- The Zone of Incompetence
- The Zone of Competence
- The Zone of Excellence
- The Zone of Genius
Understanding these zones will help you to move through the zones and hopefully get to a point where you are mainly working in your Zone of Genius.

Money: Know More, Make More, Give More by Rob Moore
One of the things I’m very passionate about is women getting to grips with their finances and being confident when it comes to money. As a result of that passion, and in the interest of continually improving my own knowledge and relationship, I have read a lot of money books.
The reason I think Money: Know More, Make More, Give More is a great book to read is because it covers the theoretical side of understanding how many works and how you can generate more money in your life, whilst also looking at the money mindset. Most money books concentrate on the theoretical or the mindset side, so finding a book that combines both makes it a great choice for people at the beginner or intermediary stage of learning about money and finances.
Also, this book is good for employees and entrepreneurs. Whilst there are some sections specifically around generating money in your business there is definitely enough in there for an employee to learn a lot.

Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Happier Life by Arianna Huffington
Through PropelHer I aim to help women to achieve the success they dream of. However, success looks different for everyone and I’m constantly talking about how you need to define what success means to you. If you don’t you can end up chasing after a different version of success, set out by someone else, and then when you achieve it you can end up filling unfulfilled.
Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Happier Life was written after Arianna woke up in a pool of blood and realised there needed to be more to success than “money” and “power”. This led to Arianna coming up with the third metric, which is in actual fact a mixture of four things: well being, wisdom, wonder and giving.

Those are my top 3 books from 2019: The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, Money by Rob Moore and Thrive by Arianna Huffington.
