On Monday 4th September 2023 PropelHer’s Book Club discussed Educated by Tara Westover.
In this summary of Educated by Tara Westover I’ll be briefly summarising the book to help you to make a decision about whether you should buy a copy of the book for yourself.

Part One of the book is 16 chapters long and focused on Tara’s life at home in rural Idaho, USA. Tara was raised by Mormon parents who distrusted formal education and government institutions. In the first part of the book you learn about her experiences growing up, as well as hearing family stories.
Part Two of the book is 13 chapters long and starts on New Year’s Day as she heads to University. This marks a new chapter in her life. A chapter filled with formal education. You hear about her experiences at college, as well as her experiences back home when she would return home between terms.
Part Three of the book is 11 chapters long and focuses on her life whilst studying at Cambridge and Harvard. You hear about her life in University, as well as what was happening outside. You also see how her relationship with her family changes.
Educated is a fantastic memoir of a woman who overcame much adversity in childhood, to enter the world of formal education and then thrive in that world.
