Want to know how to add variety into your morning routine? Fed up with following the same routine day in and day out?
Whilst some people thrive on routines others don’t. However, with so many successful people swearing by a morning routine it is important even if you aren’t naturally a person who enjoys routines that you find a way to repeatedly do a morning routine.
With that in mind, I’m sharing my top tips on how you can add variety into your morning routine.
SWAP AROUND THE ELEMENTS THAT MAKE UP YOUR MORNING ROUTINE
The book that really helped me to create a consistent morning routine was The Miracle Morning.
In that book Hal Elrod outlines the 6 things he believes are essential to a good morning routine:
- SILENCE
- AFFIRMATIONS
- VISUALISATIONS
- EXERCISE
- READING
- SCRIBING
Now there are people from around the world who follow that routine and if you don’t already have a morning routine then it is a great way to get started. (If you want to find out about each step you can check out my mini-videos for each step here). However, if you want to add more variety into your morning routine you can choose to do different elements on different days.
Hopefully you know what elements makes a good morning routine for you. Write them down and then each day you can decide, which things to do and in which order.
Using the elements highlighted in the Miracle Morning it might be you do the following:
Monday: Scribing, Visualisation and Exercise
Tuesday: Reading, Scribing and Silence
Wednesday: Exercise and Affirmations
Thursday: Silence, Scribing and Affirmations
Friday: Reading, Exercise and Visualisation
CHANGE WHAT YOU DO FOR ONE ELEMENT OF THE ROUTINE
Maybe the thoughts of changing the elements every day is too much for you. If so, you can keep doing the same elements every day but changing the element.
Exercise
An easy way to add variety into your morning routine is by doing different types of exercise. Rather than going for a run or doing yoga every morning, you can mix it up. Not only will changing what exercises you do help to vary your routine, but it also could be beneficial for your body. In the same way that people who go to a gym may do legs one day and then arms the next day, you can vary your exercise to allow certain parts of your body to have a rest.
Journalling
You could find journalling prompts and use different prompts each morning. To get you started you can check out my Journalling for Success, which includes 4 prompts for a morning journal, but with a quick search online you’ll be able to find lots of other prompts.
Meditations
There are lots of free guided meditations online. A guided meditation is a great way to start meditating as you can concentrate on listening to what someone is saying and by choosing guided meditations you won’t know what you are getting one day from the next.
VARY THE LENGTH OF YOUR MORNING ROUTINE
In the Miracle Morning, Hal recommends that you wake up an hour earlier to practice your morning routine. The fact is that your morning routine can be any length and it doesn’t have to be the same length every day. Personally, I have a shorter morning routine on weekdays and a longer routine on the weekend. Also, if I include exercise or reading my routine is likely to be longer than when I have other elements. Varying the lengths of your routine might mean that you wake up at different times or you can wake up at the same time every day but just have various times so the finishing time of your routine changes on a daily basis.
That’s it. I have shared three ways that you can add variety into your morning routine. Hopefully adding in some of these variations will help you to consistently practice a morning routine and feel the benefit of it.
I would love to know in the comments which variation you are going to try first.
