One of the most common questions I get asked is how to be more productive or how to manage my time better. The fact is we all get the same hours in a day, but some of us are better at using them than others. If you struggle with time management and find yourself wasting your time check out my top tips to get more time back in your life.
1- STOP AIMLESSLY SCROLLING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA
Can you believe that 15 years ago social media wasn’t really apart of anyone’s life? 2003 saw the birth of MySpace and in 2004 Facebook officially started. Now the average person spends 2 hours a day on social media. 2 hours a day! What could you achieve with an extra 14 hours a week?
Now I am not hating on social media. It is a great way to keep in touch with people and it is has been vital in growing PropelHer. However, if you looking to stop wasting time it is definitely the first place to look.
2 – CUT OUT TV
Back in 2015, I moved to a new flat and decided that I wasn’t going to have a TV. It is around that same time that I finally got myself into gear and launched PropelHer. That isn’t a coincidence. Television is a massive time sucker for people. If you watch box sets it is so easy to keep watching the next and the next and before you know it your whole evening has gone. Again, like social media, I am not hating on TV (and now do have one), but saying just pay close attention to how much time you are spending watching it.
3 – PLAN OUT YOUR DAY THE NIGHT BEFORE
To make the most out of the time you have in a day you need a plan. Taking a few minutes before you go to sleep to think about all of the things you have to do tomorrow and blocking in the times when you will do those activities will help you to use your time as efficiently as possible.
And if your to-do list is too long to be able to fit into the amount of time you have the next day them check out my video How To Prioritise and Manage Your To-Do List.
4 – SET AN HOURLY REMINDER
Having a plan is great, but it is too easy to fall off track – especially when it comes to the wonderful internet. Setting an hourly reminder is a good way to ensure if you have gone down a rabbit’s hole of watching YouTube videos or adding a hundred books to your Amazon basket then you are pulled back out. Every time your hourly alarm goes off refer back to your plan you wrote the night before and then get to work.
