Success isn’t a secret. When you study successful people you can see common themes and traits. By following these success rules you too can be successful.
This blog and video will be exploring one of the secrets to success: LEARNING FROM THE BEST
There is a saying that the more you learn, the more you will earn, and on the whole, I would agree with that. The thing is that there are different ways to learn and successful people make sure that learn from other successful people. One of the reasons for this is because there is no need to repeat the mistakes that other people have made. So by learning from successful people, who have already done what you are trying to do, you can learn from their mistakes and avoid the same failures.
So, how can you learn from the best?
1) Read a book
Obviously, I would start with advising that you read a book. It is exactly what I did when I wanted to improve my level of success and reading books is a great starting point for anyone who is trying to be more successful. A lot of extremely successful people have written amazing books: whether it be their autobiography (where they talk about their story and how they became a success) or it is a book exploring their area of expertise. Whether you buy a copy, rent it from your library or listen to it on audible, there is so much valuable information waiting for you.
And if you would like to discuss what you are reading with other ambitious women then join PropelHer’s Book Club. PropelHer’s Book Club is the ultimate book club for ambitious women. We read non-fiction books that support personal growth and professional success and I would love to have you join us.
2) Attend a workshop, course or event
Workshops, courses, conferences, events are all a great way to learn from others. You will get to physically be in the same place as not only the person you want to learn from but other people who value learning from the best too. Now technically the knowledge you get at events you could probably find somewhere else, but nothing beats the live experience. We all learn differently and the ability to hear and see, and maybe even touch, somebody gives your body more ways to engage in the learning process.
3) Get a mentor or coach
Nothing beats actually being able to get 1:1 access to someone. You can ask all of the questions you want and hear stories they might not share with others and have a really focused learning programme developed for you.
I have had a range of mentors and coaches in my time, with varying levels of success, so I have learnt the importance of choosing wisely. Before choosing a mentor or coach, you need to really think about what you want to learn and what role you want that person to play. Do you have specific questions? Or are you looking to be able to explore options with that person? Do you want continual access? Or just be able to work with them from time-to-time? Ask yourself all of these questions and much more before you approaching someone. So often people focus on the person they are approaching rather than the relationship they want to have.

1 April 2017 at 2:58 pmGive me Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and Beyonce every time. I want them all to be my mentor as they’d offer me something totally different as Black women. And I wouldn’t mind Maya Angelou too. Awww! I’m spoilt for choice.
