Are you waiting for the right time in order to make a change in your life? If so, then keep on reading as I’ll be sharing why you need to stop waiting for the right time and take action now.
“Do not wait: the time will never be ‘just right’. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.”
― Napoleon Hill
This quote by Napoleon Hill perfectly sums up why you should stop waiting for the right time. The fact is the time will never be right. Or if it is just right you won’t know that until the future.
If you are saying the time isn’t quite right then it is likely that you are just using timing as an excuse.
What does the ‘right time’ look like for you?
- Are you waiting for all of your friends and family are healthy?
- Are you waiting for you to have thousands of pounds of savings?
- Are you waiting to have hours of free time in life?
- Are you waiting until you have a supportive partner?
- Are you waiting until you’ve taken another course or qualification?
- Are you waiting until the economy is in a good place?
Can you see how in order for a time to be ‘just right’ you could be waiting for so many things and it the probability of all things being perfect, in all areas of your life, at the same time is slim to none.
Life is hardly ever perfect. Something will be great in one area of your life, but something not so great will be happening in another area.
That is why you have to realise that the right time isn’t coming, so you just have to choose a time and make the best of the situation.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
Whether you are trying to grow a tree, save for your pension or change your life the longer you have the better. The fact is that change takes time and the sooner you start taking action the better. You don’t form a new habit overnight and often you need momentum on your side. In this case the sooner you start the better. If you have big goals or dreams, then they’ll most likely take time. Some you might be able to achieve in months, but others may take years. If something is going to take years then you owe it to yourself to stop waiting for the right time and get going!
“Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can” Arthur Ashe
As Arthur Ashe said all you can do is start where you are. Maybe the circumstances for starting aren’t perfect, but most of those factors are probably out of your control. Instead you have to focus on what you do control. You still have the choice to say, “Right now might not be perfect time, but I can still start”. You can make the best choices for what you know right now and take the best actions you can.
You can only know the right time retrospectively
Some people would argue that there is no such thing as the right time. I understand where they are coming from, but I prefer to say that you can only know if it was the right time retrospectively. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and when we look back it is easy to say that was the great time to invest in Gold and that was a bad time to buy a second property. However, in the moment you probably don’t know that. Even if you feel like today is the right time you have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow.
