How to create and use a gratitude jar

Want to know how to create and use a gratitude jar?

If so, you are in the right place as I’m going to explain what a gratitude jar is, how you can create your own and then how to use it.

WHAT IS A GRATITUDE JAR?

A gratitude jar is simply a jar that you fill with gratitude. Usually, the jar is filled with slips of paper on and on the paper you write down what you are grateful for.

HOW TO MAKE A GRATITUDE JAR?

To make your own gratitude jar you will need the following:

  • A jar or some sort of glass container
  • A label
  • Pieces of paper (to form your gratitude slips)
  • Pen

If you are using an old jar you’ll need to clean the jar and properly dry it. Then you should take your label and write ‘gratitude’ this can then be stuck on the lid of your jar or on the outside of the jar so you can clearly see it. Then you’ll use the pieces of paper as gratitude slips, which you will write on.

HOW TO USE YOUR GRATITUDE JAR

Ideally, you should have your gratitude jar somewhere on display and easily accessible. You then need to get into a regular habit of filling in a slip and putting it into your gratitude jar. I would highly recommend that you fill in a gratitude slip as part of your evening routine. At the end of the day, you can take a gratitude slip and write down what you are grateful for today. Then fold the slip and pop it into your gratitude jar.

WHEN SHOULD I OPEN MY GRATITUDE JAR AND READ WHAT I’VE WRITTEN?

Whilst having a gratitude jar is a great way to get into a daily habit or practising gratitude a gratitude jar is also useful because you can open it up and read what you’ve written in a past. There is no right or wrong time to open it. Some people like to open the jar when they are feeling down as a pick me up. Others will fill a jar throughout the year and then read them all at the end of the year.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN MY GRATITUDE JAR IS FULL?

When your jar is full it is up to you whether you decide to keep your jar and start a new one, or you decide to empty it (completely or partially). I would recommend if you decide to empty your jar you should at least spend the time re-reading through all of your gratitude slips as you take them out.

There you have it. You now know how to create and use a gratitude jar.
