Even though I am a positive, upbeat person there are always times when negative thoughts creep into my mind. Having the occasional negative thought is fine, but when it starts to become a reoccurring habit you need to be careful.
As Lisa Kleypas said, “You are your own worst enemy”, but you have the power to change your thoughts, how you treat yourself and be your own best friend.
My top tips for managing negative thoughts are:
-
Look on the bright side
If you are having a negative thought take a moment to think what the positive of the situation could be. If you are having negative thoughts about a future activity, then consider what the best outcome would be. Too often we worry about the future, about things that have never happened and never will. When you are having negative thoughts about the future, also try to consider the most positive outcome.
-
Surround yourself with positive people
In some circles it is natural to moan and be negative. That energy rubs off and will not support you changing the habit. If you want to be more positive, surround yourself with positive people.
-
Be Grateful
Positivity starts from appreciating what you already have. Rather than being negative about your current situation, be positive about all the goodness that is in your life. A great way to incorporate being grateful into your life is to make it a daily habit, whether first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Before you know it you will have changed your thought patterns.

Affirmations
If all else fails practice saying positive thoughts over and over again. In the beginning this may not feel natural and you may not believe what you are saying. However, over time and with practice you will believe what you are saying.
