On Monday 4th January 2021 PropelHer’s Book Club discussed Lift As You Climb: Women and the Art of Ambition by Viv Groskop.
In this summary of The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin, I’ll be briefly summarising the book to help you make a decision about whether you should buy a copy of the book for yourself.
In the beginning, Gretchen talks about what led her on a research journey that resulted in her creating the Four Tendencies framework. She also highlights the advantages of knowing your own tendency and the tendency of others around you.
Next, there is a chapter dedicated to helping you to identify exactly what your lead tendency is.
Then each of the four tendencies (Upholder, Questioner, Obliger and Rebel) are discussed in great detail (two chapters per tendency). In the first chapter, the aim is to help you really understand how the tendency works, as well as understand how the variants of the tendency behave. Then in the second chapter, the focus is on dealing with someone from that tendency. You are advised on how to deal with the tendency whether they be a child, spouse or colleague.
Towards the end Gretchen explorers what happens when different combinations of tendencies are paired up, as well as discussing how you should talk to each tendency to get the most out of them.
Then the book ends by emphasising the fact that by understanding your tendency you can harness your strengths more and become happier and more successful.
That’s it! You now have an idea about what you can expect to find inside of The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin.
