On Monday 1st March 2021 PropelHer’s Book Club discussed The Serendipity Mindset: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck by Dr Christian Busch.
In this summary of The Serendipity Mindset, I’ll be briefly summarising the book to help you make a decision about whether you should buy a copy of the book for yourself.
In the beginning, Christian explores the topic of serendipity and describes how it is different from blind luck. It is the differences between blind luck and serendipity that means an individual can influence the level of serendipity that happens in their life. The rest of the book then shares how to can increase your chances of serendipity.
According to Christian, there are three main ways that serendipity occurs. Understanding the three main ways serendipity happens is key to seeing how you take actions to increase serendipity. The rest of the book then shares the different stages of serendipity and how you can make changes in your life for each stage. For example, you need to have an open mind to spot connect the dots, you need to follow up to ensure encounters turn into something and you need to evaluate serendipity to ensure you understand that what happened was a result of serendipity rather than hard work or skill.
Each chapter talks through the specific aspect of serendipity. Christian provides examples of how it has worked in his life or the lives of others. Then at the end of each chapter, the reader is presented with specific actions to take to enable them to improve in this aspect.
Then towards the end, you have the opportunity to take a quiz and find out your serendipity score. This enables you to see where you are at the moment and realise what you can change to increase your chances of more serendipity in the future.
That’s it! You now have an idea about what you can expect to find inside of The Serendipity Mindset: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck by Dr Christian Busch
